Assistant Superintendent – Structural Steel

About the role

This position supports the Superintendent in managing and coordinating daily field operations, with a primary focus on structural steel construction, to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with plans and specifications. The Assistant Superintendent plays a key role in structural steel coordination, erection sequencing, workforce management, material delivery planning, quality control, and jobsite communication. This role requires the ability to interpret construction documents, structural steel drawings, and specifications, support field execution, and collaborate with project teams to maintain project efficiency and organization. The ideal candidate will have practical experience with structural steel installation and erection operations while possessing the versatility to support all phases of commercial construction.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Superintendent in planning and maintaining the project schedule, including coordination of manpower, equipment, structural steel activities, and material deliveries.
• Interpret construction documents, structural drawings, steel shop drawings, and specifications to support field operations.
• Participate in project layout, field engineering, and verification of installed work, particularly structural steel components and connections.
• Coordinate and monitor structural steel erection activities, including columns, beams, joists, metal decking, bracing, and related components.
• Assist with coordinating steel erection sequencing, crane access, material staging, and installation logistics.
• Monitor subcontractor activities to ensure alignment with project plans, specifications, and schedules.
• Coordinate structural steel installation with concrete, foundations, embeds, anchor bolts, and other construction trades.
