Responsibilities
- Aid the Superintendent in all aspects of daily operations
- Act as Superintendent during the absence of the Superintendent
- Maintain the course appearance and safety by identifying and reporting agronomic issues; managing irrigation adjustments and schedules; caring for various types of grass under extreme weather conditions; preparing the course for tournaments and regular play; operating various hand and power tools for mowing, edging, or cultivation as needed; integrating pest management programs; overseeing the maintenance of golf cart fleet; coordinating, scheduling, and supervising capital improvement projects
- Oversee maintenance operations (including recruiting, selecting, training, scheduling, evaluating, supervising, and correcting staff performance); assist the Superintendent in conducting safety meetings
- Support administrative functions by maintaining maintenance records and developing required reports; tracking maintenance expenses such as payroll, supplies, fertilizers, chemicals, etc.; and informing the Superintendent about parts, supplies, or equipment needed
- Perform manual labor as required
- Inform the Superintendent about course conditions with golf staff, members, and guests as necessary
- Implement and support all American Golf initiatives and programs as directed by management
Qualifications
- Effective communication skills with co-workers and management
- Ability to communicate with Spanish-speaking co-workers in some locations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Proven time management, organizational, and prioritization skills
- Preferred membership in the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association
- Relevant licenses from regulatory agencies (a Certified Pesticide License is required)
- Ability to operate all equipment used for golf course maintenance
- Valid driver’s license
- Two-year or four-year college degree in Agronomy, Turf Management, Horticulture, or a related field preferred
Working Conditions
- Days and hours of work vary based on schedule and business needs
- Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required
- The employee may be required to stand for long periods, walk, read, hear, talk, balance, climb, use hands, use fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, smell, taste, push, or pull
- The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, or sharp objects
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

$72,000 - $75,000 per year
