About the role

Esplanade Golf & Country Club in Naples, FL is seeking a full-time Assistant Superintendent. This role contributes to a positive experience for members and guests while growing knowledge of golf club operations. As part of Troon, you’ll work with a global leader in golf and community management. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and participates in all aspects of golf course maintenance, including tees, greens, fairways, roughs, and cart paths. This position also supervises the maintenance staff.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and trains foremen, irrigation technicians, and other maintenance department employees.
  • Prepares weekly schedules for foremen, irrigation staff, and other maintenance employees.
  • Monitors inventory of all maintenance equipment, including use, preventative maintenance schedules, and safety training.
  • Works closely with the Superintendent to manage the annual budget and maintenance recordkeeping.
  • Assists in preparing short-term and long-term agronomic strategies for daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly maintenance, including fertilization and irrigation schedules.
  • Calibrates and operates pesticide sprayers.
  • Institutes and implements all Troon Human Resources guidelines.
  • Assists the Superintendent in informing members about present and future maintenance activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of turfgrass management experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Four-year college degree preferred but not required.
  • GCSAA Member or apprentice preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and expense management.
  • Basic computer skills (Word and Excel).
  • Strong business aptitude and passion for the golf industry.
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions

  • Physical activity including long periods (6-8 hours) of standing, walking, bending, and scooping.
  • Regularly required to reach with arms and hands.
  • Occasionally lifts up to 30 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Moderate exposure to extreme cold, heat, outdoor elements, chemicals, pesticides, gasoline, vibration, pollen, dust, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards.
  • Noise level typically moderate to loud.
  • Work extended hours during golf and holiday seasons.
  • Work weekends and holidays.
