About the role

The Assistant Stylist is responsible for engaging with guests, consulting with them on their hair care needs, and recommending products and services. This temporary position is intended to prepare talent for a stylist position to deliver quality professional services with an emphasis on the guest’s total look. You will support and be mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist for the first 3 months, focusing on performance, guest service, and operational procedures. During months 4-6, you will continue assisting while also beginning to service guests independently. This role requires a passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and a willingness to learn technical skills and product knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional guest service and contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink.
• Support mentor Stylist in meeting sales and productivity goals for hair services and products through:
  • Add-on recommendations
  • Shampoo and treatment processes
  • Blowouts and styling guests
  • Global and retouch color applications
  • Assisting with foils (e.g., folding/handing foils)
  • Cleaning, sanitation, and organizing duties
  • Pre-booking and retail recommendations
• After month three, perform hair services including hair design, haircuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, brow services, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Perform product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest service experience.
• Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to deliver an unrivaled guest experience.
• Stay informed about new and existing industry trends, products, and services during work time, and educate yourself on their ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
• Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate retail/service recommendations.
• Serve all guests, including walk-ins, in a timely and efficient manner under the mentorship of another stylist.
• Partner with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a well-rounded guest experience.
• Establish professional peer and brand partner relationships to collaboratively deliver exceptional guest service.
• Promote the benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
• Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures before, during, and after services, ensuring compliance with state board guidelines.
• Utilize established service protocols to ensure a consistent and exceptional guest experience.
• Use booking and clientele systems to schedule return services and events.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure guest-readiness.
• Maintain outstanding store operational standards, including cleanliness of the salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, break area, and any assigned areas.
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for continuous professional development.
• Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
• Protect company assets by following loss prevention best practices and providing exceptional guest service.
• Execute other operational tasks as directed.

Requirements

• Cosmetology license.
• Basic understanding of the latest salon techniques for haircutting, haircolor, lightening, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, brow services, and ear piercing (where applicable), or an aptitude to develop these skills.
• Basic understanding of equipment and chemicals used in technical work.
• Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
• Developed communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and build clientele.
• Work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Working Conditions

• Frequent mobility during shift.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting.
• Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs during shift.
• Ability to stand for long periods during shift.
• Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift.
• Frequent use of a computer, telephonic devices, and related office and cosmetology supplies.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $16.80 per hour. Exact pay will be based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay as required by applicable law and tips paid by service guests.
