About the role
The Assistant Civil/Structural Engineer will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer to assist project teams in creating world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects. The market is evolving due to technology advancements and policy changes, and projects partner with utilities to design, plan, and improve the modern electric grid.
Responsibilities
- Civil Structural Design Of Utility Infrastructure Including Electrical Substations, Both Overhead And Underground Transmission Lines, Pipelines, Renewable Facilities, And EV Charging Stations
- Assist with the design of both shallow and deep foundations including slab foundations, mat foundations, spread footings, strip footings, drilled piers, and steel piles.
- Assist with the design and analysis of structures for utility infrastructure including electrical substations, pipelines, and EV charging stations.
- Assist with the analysis of rigid bus systems to assess the structural capacity of insulators and stress and deflection in the aluminum bus.
- Assist with the design of oil containment systems for electrical equipment.
- Aid in modifying and reviewing production drawings for a variety of projects.
- Research and compile project-related data as required.
- Prepare studies and design reports.
- Assist in the construction execution including development of construction specifications & cost estimate preparation.
- Assists in the structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
- Aid in modifying and reviewing production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to: power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
- Assists in designing structural components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
- Apply basic knowledge of commonly used structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the structural engineering services industry.
- Aid in research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers.
- Aid in correcting and updating drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.
- Aid in client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, industrial, healthcare, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
- Aid in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program required or;
- Bachelor Degree in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam required.
- Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge in standard structural engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
- Basic computer skills include structural analysis programs (e.g., RISA), AutoCAD and BIM (e.g., Revit and Tekla).
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.
- Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
- Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
