Assistant Store Manager - Soho Flagship

Retail For The People · New York County, NY · 1 wk ago
On-siteSales$26–$32/hrFull-time

About the role

The role is not a deputy but a co-authorship with the Store Manager. You and the Store Manager build this store together.

Responsibilities

  • Team Development: Partner with the Store Manager to recruit, onboard, and develop Associates and Keyholders who are as passionate about the brand as you are. Coach on the floor and identify your strongest performers and developing team members.
  • Floor Leadership: Hold the standard on every shift. Lead the floor with full authority on your shifts, setting the pace, maintaining the culture, and making real-time decisions that keep the store performing and the experience elevated.
  • Client Experience: Set the example others follow. Deliver the brand's signature high-touch experience personally, and ensure every member of the team is delivering it too. Step in on complex client interactions, difficult moments, or any situation where the experience needs a senior hand.
  • Sales Performance: Drive the number, not just report it. Own individual and shift-level sales performance. Partner with the SM on weekly and monthly targets, understanding what's ahead, what's behind, and exactly what the team needs to do to close the gap. Coach conversion in real time. Celebrate the wins loudly. Address the misses quickly and constructively.
  • Visual Standards: Execute and maintain the brand's visual merchandising standards across every shift. Bring your own eye to product presentation, and proactively ensure the floor looks the way it should at 10am and at 6pm equally. Share client and selling insights that inform how the store is merchandised.
  • Operations: The back-of-house is your responsibility too. Support stock management, transfers, inventory accuracy, and all operational procedures with the same care you give the sales floor. Manage scheduling support, labour awareness, and compliance adherence. Run the behind-the-scenes with the same standard as the front.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of retail experience with at least 1–2 years in an Assistant Store Manager, Senior Keyholder, or equivalent leadership role
  • A proven record of developing people — associates who worked under you are better retail professionals for it
  • Strong commercial awareness — you understand KPIs, know how to move them, and take personal accountability for your store's results
  • Experience in luxury, premium, or contemporary fashion retail — the environment is elevated and the experience must reflect that on every shift
  • Operational fluency across the full scope of store management: scheduling, inventory, loss prevention, cash handling, POS, and compliance
  • Familiarity with Shopify POS is a plus — comfort learning new systems is non-negotiable
  • Full flexibility across weekends, evenings, and key trading periods — this is a flagship and the role reflects that
  • A genuine, visible passion for fashion, styling, and the customer experience — this role attracts people who would be shopping here if they weren't running it
