Assistant Store Manager - Operations

About the Role

The Operations Assistant Store Manager in Training (OASM-IT) program provides hands-on experience in the key responsibilities and functions of an Operations Assistant Store Manager at The Home Depot. This comprehensive training includes mentorship, leadership development, and exposure to Manager on Duty duties. Trainees will learn to manage associates, sales, customer service, safety standards, product availability, store presentation, and overall profitability.

OASMs in Training will oversee areas such as the Customer Service Desk, Receiving, Tool Rental, Order Fulfillment, Lot Loaders, and the Back Office. They will collaborate with the Store Manager, Assistant Store Managers (ASMs), and operational field teams to develop and implement strategies that boost sales and profitability, create actionable plans for departmental success, and ensure smooth operations. Trainees are expected to lead by example and uphold all company policies.

The training period lasts up to 6 weeks, during which you will learn to execute key OASM responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Training and Preparing for Assistant Manager Position (50%)
  • Participate in a structured training program covering retail store management, including operations, customer service, sales, profitability, and company policies.
  • Learn tactics to support key accountabilities: staffing and scheduling, resolving stock deficiencies, supervising associates in selling behaviors, addressing customer issues, and supporting service needs for installed sales and product sales.
  • Demonstrate the performance management process, including reviewing associate performance and executing the disciplinary process when necessary.
  • Complete all assigned training modules and assessments.
• Customer Experience (15%)
  • Supervise associates in selling efforts and lead the GET culture by example.
  • Drive customer service and associate engagement throughout the store.
  • Ensure customer concerns are resolved effectively and take necessary actions promptly.
• Sales and Productivity (15%)
  • Collaborate with key partners to plan merchandise placement, signing, and stock integrity through inventory management.
  • Learn to maintain and operate all store equipment and systems.
  • Manage daily financial operations.
• Operations Management (10%)
  • Perform Opening, Closing MOD, and other whole-store focus responsibilities.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures and hold associates accountable for compliance.
  • Maintain command of store standard operating procedures (SOPs), particularly those involving safety compliance.
  • Learn tactics to maintain process accuracy and mitigate shrink.

  • Ensure self and associates follow all safety and hazmat procedures and Safety Matters guidelines.

Requirements

• Must be eighteen years of age or older.
• Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Schedule and Travel

• Typically requires overnight travel less than 5% of the time.

Physical Requirements

• Must continuously stand or walk.

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Conditions could produce mild discomfort on occasion.
