As an Assistant Store Manager, you will be responsible for the management and supervision of all areas assigned by the Store Manager, ensuring compliance with company policies regarding customers, associates, and merchandising. In the absence of the Store Manager, you will lead the entire store operation to meet company standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all company best practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches while working.
  • Assist in analyzing store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall store performance, communicating variances to the Store Manager.
  • Ensure proper scheduling of associates to meet business objectives and compliance with all state, local, and federal regulations.
  • Oversee scheduling and completion of associate cleaning tasks, including restrooms, and accept special assignments as directed by leadership.
  • Administer payroll, including daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting.
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and developing non-exempt associates, ensuring compliance with Ross personnel policies and procedures.
  • Address associate relations issues by communicating incidents to the Store Manager or District Manager.
  • Manage and monitor actual expenditures to stay within budget, controlling payroll hours to align with business trends.
  • Prioritize safety, practicing safe behaviors and ensuring associates understand and execute emergency operating procedures.
  • Maintain adherence to company safety policies and facilitate monthly safety meetings.
  • Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism, treating all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
  • Supervise and coach retail associates in providing efficient and friendly service at registers, customer service desk, fitting rooms, and sales floor.
  • Represent and support the company brand, maintaining a professional appearance and reinforcing the company dress code.
  • Manage store cleanliness, ensuring a neat, easy-to-shop environment and high standards of housekeeping.
  • Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to company standards, and merchandise is presented according to company guidelines.
  • Urgent management of merchandise processing to the sales floor within expected company timeframes.
  • Train associates on loss prevention awareness and store shortage goals, demonstrating integrity and honesty in all interactions.
  • Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise.
  • Comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program, maintaining a customer service presence on the sales floor and heightened loss prevention awareness.
  • Lead the annual inventory process, including preparation and execution of inventory guidelines.
  • Monitor mark-out-of-stock policy and ensure the Public View Monitor (PVM) system is maintained properly.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of store or assistant store manager experience in a retail environment.
  • Ability to supervise, motivate, and communicate positively with store associates at all levels.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, give direction, and follow through to completion.
  • Ability to set priorities and exercise independent judgment.
  • Maintain high-quality customer service.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs.
  • Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
  • Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct supervision of all non-exempt associates.
