About the role
Penn State Behrend is seeking a dedicated Assistant Softball Coach to support the growth and success of its highly competitive softball program.
Responsibilities
- Coordinating the recruitment and retention of prospective student athletes including prospect evaluation, prospect selection, off campus evaluation, on and off campus visits, and contacts (phone calls, letters, e-mail, etc.)
- Assisting with the mentoring of student athletes to foster athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth; assist Head Coach in establishing and enforcing rules of conduct and team policies
- Gathering, preparing, and presenting scouting materials
- Assisting with the organization and planning for home events, practice planning, skill development of student athletes, and game day strategy
- Assisting with the organization and planning of team travel and the purchasing, inventory, care, and storage of equipment
- Assisting with the planning, organization, execution, and staffing of sport camps
- Coinciding with visiting team requests, such as practice, hotel accommodations, meals, etc.
- Assisting with former athlete and alumni relations
- Assisting with the compilation and maintenance of statistical information
- May independently supervise student managers, volunteer coaches, and other ancillary personnel
- Representing Head Coach at intercollegiate athletics, alumni, and University events
- Assisting with the oversight and management of booster clubs and team and athletic fundraising efforts
- Assisting with the management and response to media requests
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Collegiate playing or coaching experience
- Experience with recruiting and talent evaluation
- Familiarity with video analysis platforms and recruiting databases
- CPR/AED certification
- Strong knowledge of softball fundamentals, skill development, and game strategy
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy and to fostering a positive student‑athlete experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Collegiate playing or coaching experience
- Experience with recruiting and talent evaluation
- Familiarity with video analysis platforms and recruiting databases
- CPR/AED certification
- Strong knowledge of softball fundamentals, skill development, and game strategy
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
