Assistant Softball Coach, Penn State Behrend

About the role

Penn State Behrend is seeking a dedicated Assistant Softball Coach to support the growth and success of its highly competitive softball program.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating the recruitment and retention of prospective student athletes including prospect evaluation, prospect selection, off campus evaluation, on and off campus visits, and contacts (phone calls, letters, e-mail, etc.)
• Assisting with the mentoring of student athletes to foster athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth; assist Head Coach in establishing and enforcing rules of conduct and team policies
• Gathering, preparing, and presenting scouting materials
• Assisting with the organization and planning for home events, practice planning, skill development of student athletes, and game day strategy
• Assisting with the organization and planning of team travel and the purchasing, inventory, care, and storage of equipment
• Assisting with the planning, organization, execution, and staffing of sport camps
• Coinciding with visiting team requests, such as practice, hotel accommodations, meals, etc.
• Assisting with former athlete and alumni relations
• Assisting with the compilation and maintenance of statistical information
• May independently supervise student managers, volunteer coaches, and other ancillary personnel
• Representing Head Coach at intercollegiate athletics, alumni, and University events
• Assisting with the oversight and management of booster clubs and team and athletic fundraising efforts
• Assisting with the management and response to media requests

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree
• Collegiate playing or coaching experience
• Experience with recruiting and talent evaluation
• Familiarity with video analysis platforms and recruiting databases
• CPR/AED certification
• Strong knowledge of softball fundamentals, skill development, and game strategy
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
• Commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy and to fostering a positive student‑athlete experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Collegiate playing or coaching experience
• Experience with recruiting and talent evaluation
• Familiarity with video analysis platforms and recruiting databases
• CPR/AED certification
• Strong knowledge of softball fundamentals, skill development, and game strategy
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
