Assistant Softball Coach

About the Role
The College is seeking candidates who can demonstrate a record of success in coaching softball and recruiting student-athletes at the collegiate level. Successful coaches at Beloit College recruit, coach, and mentor students to ensure their education and success on the diamond are mutually reinforcing. Candidates must demonstrate the capacity to successfully recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes in partnership with the Beloit College Enrollment Office. In addition, candidates will support the Sports Information Director in the fall semester by covering various sports.
Responsibilities
- Softball coaching and mentoring
- Effectively assist the head softball coach in all aspects.
- Build strong, positive relationships to mentor and teach students.
- Teach students skills for working with others, leadership, and time management to achieve success in the classroom and athletics.
- Assist with preparation, teaching, and execution of all practices and competitions.
- Work with the head coach to establish appropriate codes of behavior for all team functions, including practices and competitions.
- Mentor students through regular meetings to enhance academic performance.
- Work with students to establish individual and team goals for each season.
- Recruiting
- Effectively assist the head softball coach in all recruiting aspects.
- Collaborate with colleagues in enrollment and athletics on complementary student recruitment approaches.
- Communicate with prospective students and their influencers through email, texting, phone calls, and social media.
- Develop rapport with prospective audiences.
- Recruit student-athletes in alignment with Beloit's enrollment office goals and in accordance with NCAA and MWC rules.
- Attend high school games, showcases, camps, and other recruiting events.
- Meet with prospective students and families during open houses, campus visits, and off-campus receptions.
- Sports Information Department Assistant
- Effectively assist the Sports Information Director in a part-time capacity.
- Support the Director for Athletic Communications and the overall department in promotion and publicity of the 20 intercollegiate athletics teams.
- Campus involvement and administrative duties
- Be an active member of the Beloit College community.
- Contribute to the College's efforts to become an anti-racist institution through coaching, mentoring, recruiting, and campus involvement.
- Represent sports programs to institutional constituencies, students, parents, the public, and external agencies.
- Practice responsible fiscal management.
- Assist the head coach in coordinating all post-season awards and banquets.
- Assist with inventory and management of all equipment and uniforms.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Previous coaching experience required.
- Experience planning, organizing, and prioritizing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software; ability to learn other relevant software.
- Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
- Adherence to all NCAA and MWC rules is required.

Special Requirements
- Ability to work nights and weekends.
- Travel required.
- Mobility across campus facilities and competition venues.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including leading players through training sessions and demonstrating techniques and skills.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and transport items weighing up to 25 pounds independently.
- May require working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
