Assistant Show Choir Director/Accompanist

Reports to: Lead Vocal Sponsor / High School Principal / High School Activities Director
Supervises: All students who are participating in vocal activities

About the Role

The goal of this position is to foster scholastic growth, a spirit of academic competition, and a sense of worth and confidence among students.

Responsibilities

• Implement all activities policies approved by the Denison Board of Education and ensure compliance by the entire staff of the activities program.
• Understand and enforce system, state, and league regulations, interpreting them for staff as needed.
• Work with the Activities Director on scheduling, transportation, and requirements for local and state-sponsored events.
• Assist the vocal sponsor in preparing for scheduled events or practices, adhering to facility times.
• Coordinate the program with maintenance and school employees.
• Assist in developing and implementing procedures for selecting participants, including direct involvement in selection if needed.
• Oversee the instruction of students participating in vocal activities.
• Maintain discipline, resolve grievances, and foster morale and cooperation.
• Assist in communicating training rules and activity-specific regulations to participants.
• Monitor facilities, authorize entry, and manage equipment issuance or requisitioning.
• Secure all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty.
• Promote the activity within the school by recruiting students not already in other programs and externally through news media, youth programs, or other feasible methods.
• Maintain positive public relations with news media, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
• Accompany team members to all vocal competitions (local and state).
• Oversee and assist in organizing all home vocal events.
• Provide the Activities Director with a list of all participating students before the season.
• Assist in completing all necessary year-end reports (Year End Summary).
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must hold Iowa Teacher Certification.

Terms of Employment

Salary and length of contract to be established by the board and master contract.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
