About the role

The Assistant Safe House Manager plays a vital role in streamlining the operation of the WINGS Chicago Safe House, ensuring a comfortable and safe environment for clients fleeing domestic violence. This position oversees daily operations, supports team members, and contributes to creating a safe home for families and individuals through leadership, problem-solving, and compassion.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Safe House, including supervision, training, and scheduling of House Advocates, volunteers, and interns.
  • Assist in processing and storing donations; conduct and approve intake and eligibility evaluations.
  • Ensure the building is safe, secure, and sanitary; coordinate and oversee activities related to policies and procedures.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Crisis Line and provide intervention, counseling, education, safety planning, and referrals to callers.
  • Support Safe House guests by providing emotional support, modeling daily living skills, assisting with case management, conducting conflict resolution and crisis intervention, and facilitating support groups.
  • Work with the Safe House Team to provide a continuum of services and ensure guest needs are met.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records, including client files, statistics reports, and census data.
  • Teach and/or assist in supervising the WINGS 40-hour domestic violence training and other CEU-required classes.
  • In the absence of the Safe House Manager, ensure staff are supported and have the resources to perform their jobs.
  • Perform additional duties typically handled by the Safe House Manager as requested.
  • Uphold standards for proper food safety.
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings and trainings.
  • Report child abuse to the Department of Children and Family Services as mandated by law and in accordance with agency procedures.
  • Work evening, weekend, overnight, and holiday shifts to ensure 24-hour facility staffing.
  • Serve as on-call for Safe House emergencies, staff questions, and staff absences as needed.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social services, a closely related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience and experience working with clients facing domestic violence, homelessness, mental health issues, and/or substance abuse.
  • 40-hour domestic violence training preferred.
  • CPR & First Aid Certification preferred.
  • ICDVP credential preferred.
  • Food Safety and Sanitation Certification preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Strong team player with the ability to interface with varied personalities and temperaments.

  • Skilled in working with sensitive issues and maintaining professional boundaries with clients.

  • Ability to handle crisis situations and demonstrate strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Commitment to providing a safe, non-judgmental environment where families can identify and access their strengths and become aware of the impact of domestic violence.

This is a regular, full-time, salary-exempt position.
