Assistant Resident Engineer - Rail and Transit
Job Description
In this role, you will get to work on the premier Infrastructure project in the US, the Gateway Program, which includes the Hudson Tunnel Project and the full rehabilitation of the North River Tunnel.
What You'll Be Doing
- Supervise daily construction activities on-site to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards, particularly in areas involving large shafts, excavation, and tunneling.
- Affiliate with contractors, site supervisors, and project engineers to resolve on-site issues, clarify project requirements, and ensure smooth coordination and alignment on project objectives.
- Enforce safety protocols and monitor compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations specific to heavy civil and tunneling work.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and initiate corrective actions for any identified risks or non-compliance.
- Prepare detailed daily and weekly reports on construction progress, site conditions, and any challenges encountered.
- Maintain comprehensive records of on-site activities, including inspections, test results, and incident reports, ensuring accurate documentation of project milestones.
- Identify and resolve on-site engineering and construction issues as they arise, particularly those unique to excavation and tunneling operations.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- 8+ years of previous experience in construction projects, preferably in a similar capacity.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, quality control procedures, and safety regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication, teamwork, and leadership capabilities.
- Willingness to work night shifts and adapt to non-traditional working hours.
Desired Skills
- Ten plus years of heavy civil large shafts and excavation experience and preference towards someone with tunneling experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or relevant certifications are a plus.
