Assistant Resident Engineer

Infrastructure Engineering, Inc (IEI) New York Office is seeking an experienced Assistant Resident Engineer to join our team working with The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at JFK Airport. IEI is a multi-disciplinary prime consulting firm delivering design engineering, program management, construction engineering, and inspection services. We cultivate engineering projects from conception and planning through implementation.

Responsibilities

• Assist in coordinating with JFK Airport Facility, operations personnel, and other stakeholders to ensure work progresses efficiently while minimizing impacts to airport operations.
• Review submittals or forward to design staff for technical review; prepare transmittal letters accepting or rejecting contractor’s submittals.
• Ensure the preparation of accurate and complete work products by monitoring schedules, change orders, and weekly reports; identify and implement cost-saving ideas or solutions to potential problems; review interim work products and provide feedback; coordinate sub-consultants.
• Supervise and mentor field staff, ensuring they effectively monitor construction activities, verify proper installation of work, and maintain accurate project documentation.
• Review project plans, specifications, addenda, and ongoing/upcoming field construction activities.
• Maintain progress of construction and communication with designated point of contact.
• Review and approve daily field inspection reports and narratives for accuracy and completeness.
• Track classified work items, time-and-material (T&M) tickets, and other project records to maintain proper documentation and accountability.
• Prepare Extra Work Order, Net Cost Change Order, Field Ordered Work, and associated cost estimates.
• Maintain logs and records related to employees, work assignments, and inspection activities.
• Review contractor payment applications for accuracy and contract compliance; assist the Resident Engineer in preparing monthly reports on project progress and financial status; proactively identify and elevate potential risks or issues.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university or approved equivalent.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to support non-standard work hours, including potential night and weekend shifts, and accommodate extended work hours as project needs require.
• Active registered Professional Engineer license preferred.
• ACI Concrete Special Inspector, Structural Steel Bolting Inspector, and Work Zone Safety Certifications preferred.
• Must possess all agency-required certifications and security clearances.
• OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification required, with training in fall protection, Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT), confined space entry, and permit-required confined space entry.
• Proficiency with eBuilder and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions

• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration.
• Often works around dust, asphalt, and concrete.
• May require extra hours, including weekends, to meet project demands and handle unexpected situations.
• Spends time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
• Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek, either daytime or nighttime.
• Works in outside weather conditions.
• Noise level in the office is usually moderate; noise level on construction sites is often loud and may require hearing protection.
