Assistant Resident Director
About the role
The Assistant Resident Director (ARD) is an entry-level full-time live-in position responsible for assisting the Resident Director (RD) with the implementation of the student development program in campus housing at UC Santa Barbara.
Responsibilities
- Assisting RD in the implementation of a curricular approach in the development and education of a residential community ranging from 500 to 1,800 residents.
- Providing support in student staff training.
- Overseeing community development, resident engagement and curricular initiatives.
- Advising the hall/community council consisting of student leaders.
- Assisting in basic counseling, advising, and referrals for student concerns.
- Supporting student conduct adjudication and addressing emergencies and crisis situations.
- Developing effective working relationships with department and campus colleagues.
- Completing a comprehensive, self-directed professional development plan to further develop skills and competencies.
- Supervision of student staff.
Requirements
- 1-3 years Demonstrated experience and ability to constructively engage and lead others in complex issues related to social justice, access, inclusion and equity within a campus community.
- 1-3 years Experience in planning and delivering programs or activities that foster student engagement and community development.
- 1-3 years Experience in a student leadership role on a college or university campus.
- 1-3 years Experience in basic student/peer advising and counseling.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (or plan to graduate before start date)
- Experience in supervising student staff.
- Ability to constructively engage others in complex social justice, access, inclusion, and equity issues on campus.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across a large, multifunctional department.
- Comprehensive knowledge of UCSB campus resources and support services.
- Knowledge of the day-to-day operations of a student housing community.
- Knowledge of and/or experience working within a residential curriculum campus.
- Interest in pursuing a career in Higher Education and/or Student Affairs.

Pay
The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is to $27.39 - $28.11/hr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate placement; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.
Schedule
This position is a full-time live-in position with on-call responsibilities. The contract term is 12 months, with the opportunity for a renewal of one additional term. This position may require night and weekend hours as needed.
