Assistant Research Professor in Cryo-EM Studies of Amyloids, Virus/Host Interactions, and Protein Complexes

About the role

This position is in the Jiang lab at The Pennsylvania State University in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments for cryo-EM, including Titan Krios and Talos Arctica TEMs with energy filters and direct electron detectors for single-particle cryoEM and cryo-ET, and a Hydra FIB-SEM for in situ structural studies of cellular and tissue sections. The lab also has multiple GPU workstations and access to the university computing center.

Responsibilities

• Join an interdisciplinary team and work on cryo-EM structural studies of amyloids in neurodegenerative diseases, virus/host interactions, and protein complexes relevant to cancers using single-particle cryoEM and cryo-ET.
• Perform cryo-EM sample preparation/screening, data collection, image processing, 3D reconstruction, and structural modeling/analyses.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have:

• A Ph.D. degree or its equivalent
• Highly self-motivated and passionate for cryo-EM structural studies
• Prior experience in cryo-EM sample preparation/screening, data collection, and image processing/3D reconstruction
• Prior experiences in protein biochemistry and molecular biology
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Assist the PI in mentoring junior members in the lab
• Excellent communication and writing skills
