Assistant Research Professor in Advanced Manufacturing

About the role
The Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park invites applications for a full-time Assistant Research Professor to lead and support research in advanced manufacturing. The position may involve manufacturing process development, joining and separation, repair and remanufacturing, mechanical design, materials and process characterization, sensing, and data-driven analysis for engineered products and systems.
Responsibilities
- Design and evaluate manufacturing processes, components, structures, fixtures, tooling, and/or experimental systems.
- Characterize process behavior, material response, defects, interfaces, and performance using appropriate experimental, sensing, or machine learning methods.
- Prepare peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, presentations, invention disclosures, sponsor deliverables, and research proposals.
- Collaborate with faculty, students, technical staff, industry partners, and government sponsors in multidisciplinary research projects.
Requirements
- Earned Ph.D. by the appointment start date in mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, materials, welding, product design, or a closely related engineering field.
- Demonstrated research experience in manufacturing-process development, joining or materials processing, repair/remanufacturing, mechanical or structural design, or closely related areas.
- Relevant capability in one or more areas such as CAD, materials characterization, process monitoring, machine learning.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research team.
