About the role
The Assistant Recreation Director supports the Recreation Department’s day-to-day operations, supervises program staff, and assists with youth and adult recreation programming and special events. This position serves as the Recreation Director’s designee when needed.
Responsibilities
- Manage and assist with the Town’s childcare services programs.
- Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate recreational staff.
- Develop program procedures, safety practices, and participant records.
- Communicate with families and provide exceptional customer service.
- Assist with budgeting, program planning, and special events.
- Support the development and delivery of youth and adult recreation programs.
- Utilize recreation management software and assist participants with registration and program questions.
- Serve as acting Recreation Director in the Director’s absence.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
- Degree or certificate in recreation management is desirable.
- Three to five years of experience in recreation, childcare programming, youth services, or a related field.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively with staff, families, participants, and community members.
- Valid Maine driver’s license required.

Pay
$57,100–$63,898 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
