Assistant Ready-Mix Plant Manager

About the Role

Assist the Plant Manager with the overall supervision of one or more ready-mix plants or departments, focusing on production oversight, operational improvements, and employee leadership with a strong emphasis on safety and environmental compliance. This position works closely with the Plant Manager and other departments, including Sales, Finance, Environmental, Safety, and Human Resources.

Responsibilities

• Assist with overseeing ready-mix plant operation activities
• Ensure compliance and enforcement of governmental rules, regulations, and company policies and procedures
• Coordinate, consult, and maintain the continuity of plant operations alongside the Plant Manager, Quality Control, and Maintenance teams
• Assist with providing safety training and development for all personnel, including training, certifications, staffing, and performance evaluations
• Facilitate the enforcement of all safety and environmental programs and policies
• Ensure compliance with environmental, OSHA, MSHA, Department of Transportation (DOT), and other regulatory requirements
• Assist with Capital Equipment budgeting, as necessary
• Support the overseeing of plant and equipment maintenance
• Collaborate with the Plant Manager in goal setting, sales, customer service, and staff development
• Aid in directing, coaching, and developing employees while ensuring compliance with company policies
• Assist with annual budgeting for locations
• Track and create productivity reports; perform analytics as required
• Lead projects as necessary or required by the Plant Manager

Requirements

• Minimum 5-7 years of experience running a ready-mix operation, including ancillary functions such as yard production and product delivery
• Experience with OSHA/MSHA regulations and requirements
• Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and requirements
• Experience managing groups of employees in one or more locations
• Experience implementing training programs for drivers, including driving technique, truck maintenance, product delivery, ticketing, payments, and customer service
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
• Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Customer service orientation

Qualifications

• Field work experience and/or college education at any level
• Relevant operations certifications (e.g., industry-specific training) a plus

Preferred Experience

• Experience in a vertically integrated construction materials organization
• Experience with SAP
