Responsibilities

  • Sample and test construction materials such as concrete, aggregates, and soils in the field or laboratory.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current quality standards and specifications.
  • Interact professionally with client representatives at project sites.
  • Support evaluation and implementation of new material technologies.
  • Assist with maintenance of lab and field equipment.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices and maintain safe working conditions, including PPE compliance and OSHA standards.
  • Prepare and submit reports to the Document Control System.
  • Seek and obtain additional training for changing industry testing requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Communicate absences and tardiness with supervisor as early as possible.
  • Travel to jobsites within local areas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer skills including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • KDOT/MoDOT Certifications – preferred.
  • ACI Concrete Certification – preferred.
  • Nuclear Gauge Certification – preferred.
  • ACI Strength Certification – preferred.
  • Field Aggregate Certification – preferred.
  • Must pass a drug test and background check.

  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely in a timely manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, technologies, and equipment.
  • Ability to follow up on inquiries promptly.
  • Strong time management and multitasking skills, with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, both internally and externally.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to compliance.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment

  • Able to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, walk, and stand for extended periods.
  • Able to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Work is performed in-person, often next to live traffic, in outdoor weather conditions, and around large heavy civil construction machinery.
  • Work is also performed in a lab setting.
  • May be exposed to extreme outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be willing to work non-traditional hours, including night shifts and overtime, as assigned.
