About the role

MasTec Civil is hiring an Assistant Construction Project Manager to join our growing team in Orlando, FL on a highway construction project. The Assistant Project Manager oversees construction according to specifications, within budget, and on schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and Scheduling: Study project details, discuss plans with management, assess needs, determine best course of action, and plan throughout project for improvements.

  • Project Coordination: Attend progress meetings with Owner/Engineer, submit required documents, conduct internal scheduling meetings, and conduct Pre-Activity Meetings.

  • Personnel Selection: Assist in selecting key management team members, coordinate staffing needs with HR, ensure company policies are enforced, and hire outside specialty engineers.

  • Contract Documents: Familiarize with contract, specifications, plans, and other documents, review invoices, subcontractor payments, and timesheets, and review cost reports.

  • Cost Control: Understand pay item estimate work sheets, evaluate cost effectiveness, document changes, and prepare and submit claims.

  • Subcontractor/Vendor Management: Negotiate contracts, manage claims, and ensure timely payments and documentation.

  • Documentation: Ensure project team members submit required documentation, maintain project diary, and file meeting minutes.

  • Public Relations: Handle negotiations and maintain positive relationships with clients and stakeholders.

  • Safety: Ensure project compliance with company and OSHA safety regulations, communicate with Safety Manager, and enforce safety policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • Minimum five years’ experience in heavy construction industry
  • Bridge, roadwork, and DOT experience

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated understanding of construction means and methods
  • Strong team leadership and project management skills
  • Experience leading multi-disciplined teams
  • Ability to direct subcontractors
  • Computer knowledge: Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, P-3 scheduling
  • Ability to maintain onsite project documentation
  • Ability to schedule and coordinate all site work
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact with people on all levels
  • Highly motivated, driven, and results-oriented
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
