About the role

South Western Communications is a trusted source for communication, physical security and life safety solutions serving Healthcare, Education, Detention and Commercial customers. We utilize a consultative approach to conduct in-depth needs analysis, research and select best-in-class products, and create integrated solutions to fulfill mission critical processes.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a lead project engineer to develop a comprehensive set of system drawings and project documentation for Detention Facilities.
  • Coordinate with programmers, technicians, installers, fabrication & testing crew.
  • Provide installation instructions for technicians and installers.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external customers.
  • Assist Sales and Estimating staff by providing support with system design and estimation preparation.
  • Actively participate in professional development and maintain knowledge of current and new technologies.
  • Comply with company policies, as well as health and safety issues.
  • Promote a team environment.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Accountability

The Assistant Project Engineer will be accountable to the Engineering Manager. Secondary accountability will be to the other management team members, employees and customers of the company.

Qualifications & skills

  • Experience or Education in Electronic Engineering Technology (EET).
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD system.
  • Experience with Networking.
  • Experience with Electrical construction.
  • Experience as a Project Manager / Foreman.
  • An understanding of Electronic Systems, such as intercommunication systems, paging systems, Access Control, Video Surveillance, HMI / PLC control systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel (beyond the basics).
  • Experience with Bluebeam PDF editing software.
  • Must have verbal and communication skills.
  • Must have Organizational skills.
  • Capable of Multitasking.
  • Must have a strong sense of urgency.
  • Punctuality & dependability is a must.

Travel

Out-of-town travel is required at times, but not typically more than 2 nights at a time.

  • Superior customer service skills to deal with both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers including such programs as MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Bluebeam and Outlook.
  • Ability to demonstrate planning, organizing and implementing skills which allow the successful completion of a project by a specific due date.
  • Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations.
  • Must be able to read and effectively interpret general business documentation.
  • Valid and current drivers license.

Physical, mental and environmental requirements

  • Employees are required to stand, walk, climb, sit and use hands and fingers.
  • Some light lifting of objects is required.
  • Reaching, grasping and carrying activities are also required.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Although most work is performed inside, occasional outside activities are subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations.
