About the role

The programming team serves as the nucleus of MulanIFF, and turns our artistic and curatorial visions into engaging and unique programming of our annual festival and year-round events. In the role of Assistant Programmer, you will be responsible for forming an impeccable experience for our audience. From selecting films to planning post-screening Q&A, your curatorial vision will help shape the future of pan-Chinese cinemas.

Responsibilities

Reporting to Artistic Director, you will work on:

  • Managing the festival submission process and organizing submission materials
  • Liaising with filmmakers, distributors, and international sales to expand programming opportunities
  • Identifying outreach opportunities to connect new audiences with emerging filmmakers
  • Identifying potential presenting partners for specific films and programmes
  • Writing and organizing all publicity information and materials related to films and screenings
  • Introducing films to the audience and hosting Q&As with filmmakers

  • Demonstrated interest, knowledge, or academic background in Film/Media Studies or other humanities disciplines such as literature, fine arts, and philosophy
  • A curatorial vision that is aligned with the direction of MulanIFF
  • Working knowledge of emerging and established filmmakers, and key players in the Asian film industries
  • Demonstrated research skills and organizational skills
  • Excellent professional communication skills in English and/or Chinese

Schedule

This is a volunteer position, with a minimum weekly commitment of 8 hours during peak season (March, April, and May) and 5 hours during our festival season and other time (January, February, June, July, and August to December).
