Assistant Professor, Theoretical Quantum Condensed Matter Physics

MIT’s Physics Department in Cambridge, MA seeks a tenure-track faculty member in theoretical quantum condensed matter physics. The search is broad; applicants in any sub-area of quantum condensed matter theory are welcome.

About the role

Faculty members conduct original research, teach undergraduate and graduate physics courses, and supervise graduate and undergraduate research.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent research in theoretical quantum condensed matter physics
• Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate physics courses
• Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research

Requirements

• Doctorate in physics or a closely related field
• Demonstrated promise in both research and teaching
• Strong preference for appointments at the Assistant Professor level

Pay

Base pay range for a 9-month academic appointment at the Assistant Professor rank: $140,000 – $156,000. The final offer will reflect scope, experience, internal equity, and applicable legal requirements.
