Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) - Finance and Business Law

Position begins August 2027 in the Department of Finance and Business Law, College of Business and Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

About the role

The Department of Finance and Business Law seeks a dedicated educator, scholar, and colleague for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. This role carries a 24-credit annual teaching load with an emphasis on high-impact instructional practices, student success, research, and professional service. The successful candidate will teach courses such as Corporate Finance, Investments, Financial Planning, Real Estate, Insurance, Banking, and/or Fintech as part of the BBA in Finance, MS in Finance, MBA, and/or DBA programs.

The approved standards for promotion and tenure at the time of initial contract are the standards that will be used for promotion and tenure. If there are revisions to department or college standards, a faculty member may request (in writing to the department chair) to have the revised standards applied.

Responsibilities

Teaching & Instructional Expectations

• Deliver 24 credits of instruction per academic year in Finance. Faculty who maintain Scholarly Academic (SA) status under AACSB standards receive up to three credits per semester of release time to support scholarly productivity and AACSB accreditation expectations.
• Maintain at least eight office hours for students each week during the academic year, proportionate to the modality of courses taught (in-person or online).
• Use Navigate for all advising and mentoring notes.
• Maintain professional and timely responsiveness to student, colleague, and administrator inquiries via Navigate, Canvas, email, and telephone, generally within 24–48 business hours while on contract. Use the “out of office” feature in Outlook when off contract.
• Ensure punctual submission of course syllabi at the start of each term, meeting all University and system-wide requirements.
• Contribute to curriculum development.
• Select and develop instructional materials that are Title II (ADA) compliant to ensure an equitable learning environment.

Research, Scholarship & Creative Activity

• Maintain an active scholarly agenda that contributes to the field of Finance.
• Disseminate research through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, or professional exhibitions per department and college standards.
• Seek opportunities to involve undergraduate or graduate students in research initiatives.

Service & Engagement

• Participate in departmental, college, and university-level meetings and committee work.
• Engage in professional and public service.
• Contribute to program assessment and development.
• Engage in professional outreach and service aligned with the University Mission Statement and the Wisconsin Idea.
• Participate in at least one graduation ceremony each academic year.

Requirements

• Terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Finance or a related discipline by the time of appointment. ABD candidates may apply but must complete their degree by the contract start date in August 2027; otherwise, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that the degree will be completed before January 2028.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching and experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Canvas, Blackboard, or Brightspace.
• Record of scholarly achievement.
• Ability or willingness to integrate AI applications and financial technology concepts into course delivery and student mentorship.
• Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
• Willingness and ability to actively participate in applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.

The College of Business and Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is the largest AACSB-accredited business school in the state of Wisconsin. The College enrolls approximately 4,000 business undergraduate students and offers 15 majors and 26 emphases. Pay

Well-qualified candidates can expect a minimum starting annual salary of $140,000.
