Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) - Clinical/Counseling Psychology

We seek a colleague committed to student-centered undergraduate instruction, active mentorship of undergraduate students within a meaningful research program, and service to the university and community. Candidates from any specialization within clinical or counseling psychology are encouraged to apply.

About the role

The successful candidate will develop and teach clinically-oriented undergraduate courses (e.g., psychopathology, interviewing skills), introductory/general education courses, and courses in their area of specialization. The position includes pursuing an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students and leads to scholarly dissemination, as well as participating in service activities while embracing principles of diversity and inclusion.

Support includes graduate assistants for instruction and research, a dedicated Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, and negotiable start-up funding. Early career course load reduction may be available to support research and academic endeavors.

Responsibilities

• Teach a 24-credit annual load, including undergraduate courses in psychopathology, interviewing and psychotherapy techniques, and courses in the faculty member’s area of specialization, as well as an introductory course in psychology or general education.
• Maintain an active program of research in clinical or counseling psychology, with a commitment to engaging undergraduate students in meaningful ways.
• Serve as an academic advisor and mentor to students.
• Contribute to service activities for the university, community, and professional organizations relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interests.

Requirements

• Ph.D., Psy.D., or ABD in clinical or counseling psychology. Candidates who are ABD must complete their degree by the contract start date in August 2027; otherwise, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the expectation that the degree will be completed before January 2028 in advance of their first scheduled review.
• Evidence of potential for effective teaching.

Pay

Well-qualified candidates can expect a minimum starting annual salary of $60,000.

The Psychology Department at UW-Whitewater offers a Bachelor's degree in psychology as well as M.S.E. and Ed.S. degrees in School Psychology through a NASP-accredited program.
