About the role

We are seeking investigators focused on cardiovascular biology and medicine, particularly hereditary/genetic cardiomyopathies and neuromuscular diseases with cardiac involvement. The successful candidate will join the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences within the USF Health Heart Institute, part of Internal Medicine. This role involves collaboration with faculty across USF colleges, including Engineering, Arts & Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and the Moffitt Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The USF Health Heart Institute is housed in a state-of-the-art facility with advanced laboratory and clinical spaces, cutting-edge equipment, and core facilities such as a vivarium for small animal husbandry and zebrafish research.

Responsibilities

  • Design and oversee independent research projects with guidance from the Principal Investigator (PI).
  • Conduct basic and translational research related to cardiovascular disease under PI supervision.
  • Prepare data, figures, and protocols for manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Collaborate with the PI on manuscript and grant preparation and submission.
  • Seek independent funding opportunities from federal and private sources.
  • Instruct lab personnel in bench techniques and rodent procedures.
  • Fulfill teaching, research, service, and administrative responsibilities as required by the university.
  • Provide academic advising and represent the university, college/school, or department as needed.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization, with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
  • Must meet university criteria for the rank of Assistant Professor.
  • Extensive research experience (over 10 years) in molecular biology, cell biology, and animal models for human diseases.
  • Experience in seeking extramural grant funding from federal and private sources.

Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Self-motivated individual with a PhD or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and immunoassays.
