About the role
The Department of Physics is hiring a tenure-track Assistant Professor in theoretical Quantum Information Science and Technology starting in August 2027. The selected candidate will establish an externally funded research program, teach physics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentor students across all degree tiers, and provide departmental service. This hire is part of a major, university-wide QIST investment that includes a new quantum institute, cluster hires, and new degree programs. The successful candidate will expand the department's existing quantum research capabilities while opening new avenues for interdisciplinary collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Develop a nationally-recognized, externally-funded research program in theoretical QIST.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate level physics courses.
- Provide service to the department and institution.
- Mentor students at all levels (undergraduate, master’s, and PhD).
- Expand existing quantum research capabilities and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Bolster collaborative potential in existing faculty research areas (quantum optics, cold atom physics, molecular spectroscopy, topologically-protected magnetic materials, quantum information theory) while establishing new research directions.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in physics or a related discipline.
- Postdoctoral experience in physics or a related discipline.
Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in quantum computing.
Skills
