Assistant Professor or Lecturer (non-tenure track) position Sports Management

About the Role
Under the direction of the Dean and Associate Dean, the Lecturer or Assistant Professor will provide academic instruction for undergraduate and/or graduate courses, serve as an academic mentor, participate in faculty or university committees, and engage in scholarly activities or creative endeavors. The successful candidate will contribute to the program’s vision by developing innovative curricula, supporting student professional development, maintaining grading standards, and fostering industry relationships. Responsibilities include event promotion, club involvement, cross-course opportunities, and leadership in scholarship.
Responsibilities
- Teach Sports Management courses at the undergraduate and, potentially, graduate levels (24 units/year for Assistant Professor; 24 or 32 units/year for Lecturer). Courses may include:
- Sports Analytics
- Sports Ethics and Law
- E-Sports
- Sports Facilities, Design, and Management
- Introduction to Sports Management
- Design creative assignments and activities to foster hands-on, active learning in one-on-one and classroom settings.
- Evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations, providing timely feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student progress, and curriculum; submit grades and reports promptly.
- Provide a course syllabus to students within the first week of class, adhering to faculty handbook guidelines.
- Participate in marketing, promotions, and recruiting efforts for the program, including events, experiential learning, and student-led competitions.
- Engage in committee work and meetings, contributing to the university community.
- Evening and weekend hours may be required for experiential learning components.
- For Assistant Professor: Maintain an active research program involving undergraduates and adhere to responsibilities outlined in the faculty handbook for teaching, advising, service, and scholarly activities.

Knowledge Of:
- Sports Management education techniques, including simulations, case studies, research projects, and artificial intelligence integration.
- Current theory and practice within the field of Sports Management.
- Principles and best practices of effective teaching.
- Student learning outcomes and assessment methods.
- University curricula and campus/community resources available to students.
- Modern computing technology and record-keeping techniques for student enrollment, attendance, and progress.

Qualifications
- Minimum:
- Lecturer: Master’s degree from an accredited institution with an emphasis in Sports Management or a closely related field.
- Assistant Professor: Doctoral degree from an accredited institution with an emphasis in Sports Management or a closely related field. ABD (All But Dissertation) candidates will be considered at the Instructor level with a set date for degree completion.
- Preferred:
- Expertise in Sports Analytics, E-Sports, or Sports Law and Agencies.
- Work experience in Sports Management, such as business operations, sport agencies, analytical research, media programming, sales, facilities management, event coordination, esports, marketing, or player operations.
- Research, service, or creative activities focused on current trends in sports business (e.g., technological integrations, fan engagement, sport tourism, sport betting, women’s sports participation/investment).
- Experience collaborating with sport industry professionals in teaching, research, or professional networks.
Working Conditions
- Primarily indoor classroom environment; may require visiting various classroom sites on campus.

Pay
$63,000 - $82,000 for a 0.75 FTE (academic year full-time) position.
