Assistant Professor or Instructor - Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling Track, Department of Psychology

About the Role

The Department of Psychology seeks a full-time Assistant Professor (preferred) or Instructor in Counseling to begin teaching in January 2027. The position involves teaching courses within the Counseling Track of the Master of Arts in Mental Health (MAMH) program at the graduate level, based on faculty expertise and program needs.

Faculty are expected to teach in multiple formats, including distance learning, online, and face-to-face; serve as a supervisor for practicum students in the Cameron Psychology Center; perform department and university service; support student scholarship; and conduct research in their field. Additional responsibilities include student advisement, assisting with program and department assessment and development, and supporting student organizations and events.

Responsibilities

• Teach master’s-level courses in the MAMH: Counseling Track, undergraduate and other master’s-level courses, and one section of General Psychology each semester.
• Deliver courses in various formats, including in-person, Zoom, hybrid, and online.
• Engage in scholarship and service, including advising students in the MAMH: Counseling Track and overseeing curriculum and assessment for the track.
• Teach 12 credit hours per semester.
• Supervise practicum students in the Cameron Psychology Center.
• Perform department and university service, support student scholarship, and conduct research in the field.
• Assist with program and department assessment and development, and support student organizations and events.

Requirements

• Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and LPC Supervisor (LPCS) in the state of Oklahoma, or willingness to complete required training to obtain LPCS approval.
• Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, or a mental health-related field (required for the rank of Instructor).
• Experience supervising practicum students and demonstrated teaching excellence.
• Must possess and maintain a valid LPC license.

Qualifications

• Preferred: PhD in Counseling (required for the rank of Assistant Professor).
• Minimum of five years of experience in the counseling field.
• Experience supervising pre-licensure LPC candidates.
• Licensure in Alcohol and Drug Counseling.
• Demonstrated expertise in online teaching and Quality Matters standards.

Doctoral degree candidates may be considered for the Assistant Professor position, but if hired and the degree has not been earned by the start of employment, the initial appointment will be at the rank (and salary) of Instructor. The rank will convert to Assistant Professor upon documented completion of the degree, per the conditions specified in the offer letter.
