Assistant Professor of Practice in Engineering Technology (Safety Management)

About the role

Full-time, non-tenure track position in the Department of Engineering Technology at Sam Houston State University. The department serves 700+ majors and offers 40+ Engineering Technology courses, with facilities including the Fred Pirkle Engineering Technology Center and Westmoreland Engineering Technology Center labs. Position is open until filled.

Responsibilities

• Teach traditional and online courses in Safety Management and Engineering Technology.
• Contribute to the growth and improvement of the Environmental Health and Safety Management program through curriculum development, enhancement of teaching and laboratory resources, student mentoring, department service, and applied undergraduate projects.
• Support program assessment, accreditation activities, and industry engagement.

Requirements

• Earned Master’s or Doctorate degree (ABD candidates considered) in Safety Management, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Applied Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a closely related field.

Qualifications

• Expertise in occupational and industrial safety, including safety management, OSHA compliance, hazard identification and risk assessment, and workplace safety.
• Ability to teach Safety Management courses and contribute to other Engineering Technology program areas such as Construction Management, Engineering Technology, and Engineering Design Technology.
• Broad industry experience and interdisciplinary technical expertise.
• Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to undergraduate education.
• Relevant industry and college-level teaching experience.

Skills

• Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CIH, or CHST are preferred.
