Job Summary

The Department of Plant Pathology at the University of Kentucky invites applicants for a tenure-eligible extension/research faculty position focused on field-grown fruit, vegetable, and tobacco pathology. The position is located on the main campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY.

Required Education

PhD in Plant Pathology or related discipline

Required Related Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in applied plant pathology research and plant pathology extension and outreach

Job Summary

The successful candidate will develop a nationally recognized Extension program and conduct translational research on pathogens of these crops. We seek candidates that will use innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to conduct impactful applied research relevant to stakeholder needs. As part of a team of Extension personnel within the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and statewide, this individual will develop and implement educational/outreach programs that complement and enhance existing extension and research programs, supporting statewide county-based extension professionals and other stakeholder groups pertaining to specialty crop disease management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement educational/outreach programs that complement and enhance existing extension and research programs
  • Conduct translational research on pathogens of field-grown fruit, vegetable, and tobacco crops
  • Provide research-based disease management recommendations to stakeholders, cooperating in multi-disciplinary teams with relevant collaborators
  • Mentor graduate students in the Integrated Plant and Soils Sciences graduate program
  • Contribute to institutional service and the missions of the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment

Qualifications

  • PhD in Plant Pathology or related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in applied research in disease management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with common computer technologies and social media
  • Experience with extension and outreach

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Experience in scientific communication
  • Experience with specialty crops
  • Experience in multidisciplinary team settings
  • Ability to develop and implement innovative, impactful Extension and applied research programs
