Assistant Professor of Law in Legal Writing and Skills (Knoxville, Tennessee)

About the Role

Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law seeks candidates for entry-level and lateral non-tenure track faculty positions beginning July 2027. Positions are full-time and based in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The successful candidate will primarily teach first-year legal writing and upper-level skills and experiential courses. As enrollment in our online part-time/hybrid program increases, we also seek candidates with experience in or enthusiasm for online teaching.

Our mission includes providing legal education to students from regions underserved by the legal profession, particularly Appalachia and similar areas, to produce graduates who will serve their communities as lawyers and leaders.

Responsibilities

• Teach first-year legal writing and upper-level skills and experiential courses.
• Teach courses through various modalities, including in-person, hybrid, and fully remote, based on programmatic needs and faculty interest.
• Engage with the broader community, including national organizations and the local bench and bar.
• Fulfill service obligations and participate in faculty governance (with voting rights on all matters except hiring and promotion of tenure-track faculty).
• Teach in alternate summers as part of a twelve-month contract.

While the position does not require scholarship, it is required for promotion. Non-tenure track faculty are eligible for financial support of scholarship.

Schedule

This is a full-time, twelve-month contract with teaching responsibilities in alternate summers. The initial contract is for one year and renewable, with the possibility of applying for a multi-year appointment after three one-year appointments.
