Position Overview

Salary range: $93,500 - $121,400. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. "Off-scale salaries" and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

About the Role

The Department of History at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a tenure-track position in post-1945 Korean History at the rank of assistant professor, beginning in July 2027. The successful candidate will have a research portfolio rooted in the post-1945 period and a demonstrated ability to work with Korean language historical sources. The hire will contribute to the department's undergraduate and graduate program, and work to support the continued growth of the Center for Critical Korean Studies.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application):

  • Ph.D. in History, relevant Humanities discipline, or an interdisciplinary field with a research and teaching focus on post-1945 Korean history
  • Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered
  • Ph.D. must be completed by the date of appointment (7/1/2027)
