Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Faculty position in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. This is a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor role with a 9-month academic appointment, eligible for benefits.

About the role

The department seeks outstanding applicants with emphasis in computer engineering, particularly in traditional and emerging areas such as Internet of Things, Next Generation Computing, Wearable Systems, Computer Architecture, and Embedded Systems. Strong candidates from related computing areas will also be considered.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses, conduct research, and provide community and university service. The position can start in either January 2027 or August 2027.

Responsibilities

• Develop and teach undergraduate courses in computer engineering and related subjects.
• Conduct research and seek extramural funding.
• Develop curriculum and advise students and student organizations.
• Participate in outreach, including visits to industry and recruiting local students.
• Serve on department, college, and university committees.
• Teach courses using alternative delivery methods, including distance education.

Candidates with expertise in high-performance GPU/TPU computing, machine learning, cybersecurity, IoT, or wearable systems are particularly encouraged to apply.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field (or ABD with expected completion by December 2026).
• Strong commitment to undergraduate education and engaging pedagogies.
• Ability to teach introductory undergraduate courses in electrical engineering.
• Ability to develop and teach undergraduate courses in computer engineering.
• Experience teaching distance courses as needed.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and undergraduate research.
• Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
• Strong commitment to undergraduate education and student success.

About the department

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is recognized for its excellent undergraduate programs, offering degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Sustainability and Renewable Energy Systems. In Spring 2026, the department served 327 undergraduate students.

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering emphasizes a hands-on approach, with 69 credits of coursework including laboratory experiences. The department also offers courses to remote students through the UW-Platteville Engineering Partnerships (PEP) program, with most courses available via distance modality.
