Assistant Professor of Economics
Position Summary
The role occupant will teach introductory, upper-level, and graduate-level courses in economics and related fields. He/she will determine course content, learning objectives, pedagogical approaches, and academic assessment for each course. The incumbent will engage students in creative ways beyond the classroom, provide academic and career advice to students, serve on committees/other roles at the department, Business School, and university levels, and conduct scholarly activities (research, publication, presentations).
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Develop and deliver student instruction, in person and online (25%).
Contribute to the department, Business School, and university by serving on committees and in other roles as required (15%).
Advise students on academic and career plans (15%).
Engage students beyond the classroom in reading groups, study abroad, case competitions, etc. (10%).
Absess and report student learning; complete student record keeping in a timely and accurate manner (10%).
Contribute to the discipline by conducting scholarly activities that lead to academic publications, presentations, and/or pedagogical improvements (10%).
Represent the Business School externally as requested by serving on panels, working with business/community organizations, etc. (10%).
Participate in departmental, faculty, and staff meetings as requested (5%).
Education/Experience
Master’s degree in economics or related field required; terminal degree in economics or related field preferred.
Prior teaching experience preferred.
Relevant industry experience desired.
Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector desired.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
Comprehensive computer skills, with the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology.
Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and standard methods of digital communication, including web/text/chat platforms.
Proficiency/Advanced skills in Excel desired.
Familiarity with artificial intelligence, statistical analysis, and other tools desired.
