About the role
The Surgical Cardiac Tech II plays a crucial role in the operating room, assisting the surgical team and performing various tasks. This position requires advanced knowledge, skills, and abilities to handle complex surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Applies and demonstrates proficient/advance knowledge, competencies, and skills in surgical and aseptic techniques and practices.
- Affixes to all safety standards and policies, including surgical, specimen collection, sterile processing, Title 22, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
- Adheres to aseptic techniques and takes prompt corrective action when breaches occur.
- Maintains continuous communication with the circulating nurse and other surgical team members regarding patient status and surgery progress.
- Prepares, sterilizes, and cleans surgical equipment and instruments.
- Assists in arranging and inventorying sterile setups for operations.
- Facilitates the smooth flow of surgical interventions by preparing preference cards, knowing instruments and equipment, and passing instruments.
- Performs the scrub role, anticipating surgical team's needs, passing instruments, cutting sutures, etc.
- Prepares, cleans, and maintains instruments, equipment, and surgical-related items according to established guidelines.
- Transports patients, equipment, supplies, and specimens.
- Prepares the operating room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of case/operative procedure.
- Trains students in the preceptor role.
- Evaluates and acquires surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies.
- Participates in process improvement projects.
- Mentors and/or leads other surgical technicians.
- Assists in performing circulating skills and tasks.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a CAAHEP accredited Surgical Technician Program.
- One year of experience in a Surgical Technician role.
- Active practice as a Surgical Technician within the last six months.
- Valid Surgical Technologist - CST certification from accreditation organizations CAAHEP or ABHES.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City).
