About The Division Of General Medicine

The Division of General Medicine at UTMB is dedicated to providing comprehensive patient-centered care for adults through excellence in clinical care, education, and research. With 38 faculty, 4 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and 99 residents, the Division delivers high-quality care across diverse settings, including ambulatory clinics, inpatient services, and community outreach programs. The Division plays a key role in advancing primary and hospital-based care by integrating multidisciplinary approaches that emphasize prevention, chronic disease management, care coordination, and population health. Faculty members actively engage in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, fostering an environment that supports lifelong learning and professional growth. Research and scholarly activity are integral to the Division’s work, with ongoing projects focused on healthcare delivery innovation, chronic disease outcomes, health equity, and evidence-based practice.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient care for adult patients with a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and other learners in a clinical and didactic settings.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—including nursing, pharmacy, social work, and rehabilitation—to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, clinical skills training, and academic programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in an academic medical center or teaching environment.
  • Demonstrated involvement in scholarly activity, quality improvement projects, or curriculum development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

SALARY

Commensurate with experience.
