Assistant Professor of Biology - Neurobiology

About the Role

The Department of Biology at Trinity University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Neurobiology beginning August 2027. This position will also support the interdisciplinary Neuroscience major. The candidate is expected to build a sustainable neuroscience research program actively involving undergraduates in obtaining, presenting, and publishing data.

Teaching Responsibilities

• Teach 3 lecture and/or laboratory courses per semester
• Teach Neurobiology (team-taught as an integrated lecture and lab course focused on cellular and molecular understanding of the nervous system using structural and functional experimental approaches)
• Contribute to labs and/or lectures in the Biology core sequence (three semesters of lecture-lab combinations which are team-taught)
• Teach other upper and lower division electives in Biology/Neuroscience of the candidate's choosing
• Teach courses related to broader University initiatives and the core curriculum

Research Expectations

• Develop a sustainable research program involving undergraduate students in neurobiology or neuroscience
• Research must use aquatic vertebrate (e.g. Zebrafish, Xenopus), invertebrate, cellular, or computational model systems
• Secure summer compensation through a combination of internal and external sources
• Actively involve undergraduates in obtaining, presenting, and publishing data

Service Responsibilities

• Advise departmental majors and engage in other departmental service
• Become an active member of the Neuroscience steering committee, contributing to curricular discussions, advising majors, and engaging in service to the major
• Other service opportunities to the University and the profession as the candidate approaches tenure

Qualifications

• Required: Ph.D. or similar terminal degree in Neuroscience, Neurobiology, or Biology with a Neuroscience concentration
• Preferred: Postdoctoral or equivalent experience
• Thorough grasp of cellular and molecular neurobiology
• Research and teaching goals should align and demonstrate a commitment to the teacher-scholar model, excelling in both
• Demonstrated ability to positively interact with and contribute to the Department and University

Appointment Details

• 9-month appointment (9 or 12 month disbursement) starting August 2027
• Standard pre-tenure probationary period
• Maintaining and satisfying minimum on-site attendance (classroom and office hours attendance) is an essential function
