Assistant Professor of Art

About the role

The Department of Art at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is seeking three tenure-track faculty positions in Art starting in August 2026. These positions are particularly welcoming to candidates specializing in Art History, Ceramics, or Drawing, and we encourage applications from those working in related fields.

Responsibilities

• Teach a range of courses in Art History, Ceramics, or Drawing, including foundational and advanced-level classes.
• Develop and deliver engaging and well-structured curriculum.
• Engage in ongoing scholarly or creative work and demonstrate teaching effectiveness.
• Participate in community engagement and outreach activities relevant to their area of expertise.

Requirements

• Terminal degree in a relevant field by the time of appointment: Ph.D. in Art History or related field for Art History applicants. MFA in the appropriate field for studio applicants.
• Demonstrated potential for ongoing scholarly or creative achievement.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness as appropriate to appointment at the rank of assistant professor.

• Commitment to student-centered teaching that supports the success of all students.
• Strong foundation in fine arts pedagogy.
• Clear communication skills (written, verbal, and visual).
• Ability to develop and deliver engaging and well-structured curriculum.
• Active in community engagement and outreach related to their area of specialty.

Skills

• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to teach a range of courses in Art History, Ceramics, or Drawing.
• Experience teaching at introductory and advanced undergraduate levels.
• Experience with program coordination, studio management, or exhibition curation.
