Position Summary

Applications are invited for the position of Assistant Professor of African American literature. This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position to begin August 2024. Preference given to candidates with demonstrated ability to teach a wide range of African American Literature courses. We especially invite candidates able to contribute to courses in Post-colonial Literature, Women’s and Gender Studies, or African American Studies. Likewise, we seek candidates that demonstrate respect for the diverse teaching and learning needs of students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a wide range of African American Literature courses.
  • Contribute to courses in Post-colonial Literature, Women’s and Gender Studies, or African American Studies.
  • Support the mission of related academic units and co-curricular centers such as the African American Cultural Center.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to teach a wide range of African American Literature courses.
  • Ability to contribute to courses in Post-colonial Literature, Women’s and Gender Studies, or African American Studies.
  • Respect for the diverse teaching and learning needs of students.

Qualifications

  • PhD in English, Comparative Literature, African American Studies, or related field required.
  • Experience teaching African American Literature at the university level.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Knowledge of current pedagogical practices and technologies.

Pay

The starting salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
