Assistant Professor, History
Fairfield University’s Department of History invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in the history of China (period open), beginning fall 2027, pending final budget approval.
About the role
Teaching load is three classes per semester (two preps). The successful candidate will teach courses at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum: introductory courses, intermediate survey courses, and advanced seminars in their specialty. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching, scholarly research, and university service. The position contributes to the University’s core curriculum priorities of writing across the curriculum, social justice, and interdisciplinarity. Participation in the Asian Studies program and other interdisciplinary programs in the Meditz College of Arts and Sciences is expected.
Responsibilities
- Teach three undergraduate courses per semester (two preparations)
- Develop and deliver introductory, intermediate, and advanced courses in Chinese history
- Support the University’s core curriculum goals in writing, social justice, and interdisciplinarity
- Engage in the Asian Studies program and other interdisciplinary initiatives
- Conduct scholarly research and publish in the field of Chinese history
- Participate in departmental and university service activities
Requirements
- PhD in History required by the time of appointment
- Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching at the university level
- Active scholarly research agenda in the history of China
- Commitment to contributing to a Jesuit Catholic university’s mission and core curriculum priorities
