Assistant Professor, Clinical Faculty Appointment, Rheumatology
About the role
The Assistant Professor will provide clinical expertise in patient care management and an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents, and students in the specialty of Rheumatology. They must be fully ambulatory, have excellent bilateral manual dexterity, good hand-eye coordination, and visual and auditory acuity to perform the job functions. They must also be intelligent with outstanding analytical skills, emotionally stable, and capable of managing patients and their families compassionately and positively.
Responsibilities
- Education/Teaching: Provide a balanced and integrated educational program in internal medicine for medical residents and students. Attend and participate in Division/Department teaching and continuing education conferences. Provide talks to interdisciplinary teams, patients, and caregivers across the institution and nationally on rheumatology topics.
- Research: Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Department. Develop programs of clinical research and scholarly activities in keeping with the goals of the Department. Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support clinical research. Develop and implement protocols and budgets.
- Clinical Practice: Represent the Department of General Internal Medicine at local, regional, state, and national levels regarding the field of Rheumatology. Practice clinical medicine in an exemplary manner, providing complete and thorough history and physical patient examinations. Develop and maintain a clinical practice for patients referred to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Qualifications
- M.D. degree or equivalent from an accredited medical school
- Licensed as a physician in the State of Texas
- Completed residency training in an approved American Residency Program or equivalent
- Completed fellowship training in an approved American Rheumatology Fellowship Program or equivalent
- Board certified in Internal Medicine and board certified (or eligible) in the subspecialty of Rheumatology (or foreign equivalent)
- At least 2 years of experience as an Instructor; or 5 years of experience post-degree with any combination of time as a clinician, clinical scientist, or GME trainee
