Assistant Professor - Clinical

Position Overview: The Ohio State University College of Dentistry’s Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Anesthesiology invites applications for a full-time clinical track Assistant or Associate Professor in the dental anesthesiology section to serve as the program director.

Responsibilities

• Pre-doctoral and resident education with an emphasis in anesthesiology and pharmacology
• Participation in the school’s intramural practice
• Leadership and management of the dental anesthesia program, including:
  • Operational oversight
  • Ensuring compliance with CODA accreditation standards
  • Supervision of residents training at the College of Dentistry and affiliated institutions
  • Engagement in college, university, and national professional services
• Promotion of collegiality, collaboration, and cultural diversity
• Serving as a role model and advocate for professionalism and high ethical standards in a health science educational setting

Qualified candidates may pursue a dual appointment in the Department of Anesthesiology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC), including the opportunity to practice in the hospital’s main operating rooms.

Requirements

• DDS/DMD degree from a CODA-accredited institution
• Completion of a minimum of two years in a CODA-accredited or American Dental Board of Anesthesiology-accepted dental anesthesiology residency program
• Extensive experience in providing general anesthesia and sedation for diverse dental and maxillofacial surgical procedures across all age groups, including pediatrics
• Experience functioning in diverse patient care environments, including hospital and ambulatory settings
• Board certification or active candidacy for certification by the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology
• Eligibility for dental licensure with a General Anesthesia endorsement in Ohio
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Qualifications

• Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in anesthesiology or a related field (desired but not required)
• Track record or potential for receiving funding (preferred)
