About the role
This position involves providing statistical or data science support services to UTMB faculty, staff, and students. It also includes developing new quantitative methods, planning, directing, and reporting on statistical analysis of research data, designing and implementing analysis of biomedical databases, outlining and describing experimental designs, and collaborating with investigators in grant development.
Responsibilities
- Provides statistical or data science support services to UTMB faculty, staff and students.
- Develops new quantitative methods.
- Plans, directs and reports statistical analysis of research data.
- Designs and implements analysis of biomedical databases.
- Outlines and describes experimental designs, including sample size projections.
- Develops methodology grant proposals.
- Collaborates with investigators in grant development, including design of studies and preparation of analytical portions of grant proposals.
- Collaborates with investigators in methodology grant development.
- Writes methodology portions of manuscripts based on results of analysis and addresses manuscript revisions based on reviewer's comments.
- Collaborates with biostatistics faculty to publish methodology manuscripts.
Requirements
- Tenure-track faculty appointment.
- Teaches both short courses and regular graduate level courses at a level consistent with the UTMB faculty and staff requirements.
- Provides sound statistical practice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism and competence in dealing with a variety of individuals.
- Ability to communicate information to non-statisticians.
- Adheres to internal controls established for department.
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (PhD or DrPH) in biostatistics, statistics, health informatics, or computer science with at least 3 years of related experience.
- Skills: Personal computer, proficiency in computing, knowledge of statistical packages such as SAS, SPSS, R, Python, or SQL, familiarity with database management, problem-solving, excellent communication skills, good organization skills, knowledge of statistical and scientific research design, knowledge of data files handling techniques, experience in design and analysis of electronic health record data, classroom teaching experience.
