About the role

The Department of Biology and Biotechnology at Worcester Polytechnic Institute invites applications for a full-time tenure track position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027. The position is located in Worcester, MA, within the Biology & Biotechnology department of WPI.

Responsibilities

• Conduct vigorous, innovative, and independent internationally recognized research.
• Establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.
• Integrate computational, quantitative, and/or AI-driven approaches with experimentally grounded biological research.
• Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
• Contribute to departmental strengths in cell and molecular biology, microbiology, genomics, bioinformatics, and neuroscience.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Biology or a related field (e.g., Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Bioinformatics, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Synthetic Biology, Genetics, or related disciplines).
• Substantial postdoctoral experience.
• Strong record of impactful research.
• Commitment to teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students.

Skills

• Expertise in machine learning, systems biology, genomics, imaging, modeling, and/or bioinformatics.
• Ability to leverage cutting-edge methods to address fundamental biological questions with biomedical, biotechnological, or environmental relevance.
• Strong commitment to experimentally driven research, including a substantive wet‑laboratory component.
• Skills in bridging computation and experimentation.

Pay

Academic Year Salary: $90,000 – $100,000 per year, based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity.
