Assistant Professor /Associate Professor - Early Childhood and Childhood Education (ECCE)

About the role

The Department of Early Childhood and Childhood Education (ECCE) in the School of Education at Lehman College, City University of New York (Bronx, New York City) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in literacies with a focus on how technology and digital literacies play a role in children’s development, and/or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a teaching load of 18 credits per 9-month academic year.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in child development, pedagogical foundations, as well as teaching methods across the humanities delivered on campus and online across multiple instructional modalities within the Childhood Education curriculum.
• Maintain an active research agenda that includes professional scholarship, presentations and grantsmanship.
• Share responsibility for continuous program improvement and program accreditation (including AAQEP compliance), academic advisement, and department assignments, including administrative duties, program and course development.
• Program coordination
• Engage in student recruitment, application review, and admissions processes.
• Support department and program operations and coordination to ensure effective student advisement, placement, and supervision.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff across departments and schools to advance interdisciplinary and sponsored program initiatives.
• Pursue external funding opportunities to support research, program innovation, and continuous improvement efforts for themselves as researchers, the Department, the School of Education, Lehman College, and the field.
• Develop and maintain articulation agreements and educational partnerships with community colleges.
• Engage in service to the university, college, school, and department through committee membership and related professional contributions.
• Assist with program hiring, staffing, mentoring, and supervision of part-time and adjunct faculty.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree in Education or a closely related field from an accredited university.
• Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate-level teaching foundation courses in education, as well as teaching methods courses through in-person and online modalities.
• Experience in teaching in educational settings that serve teachers and children.
• A minimum of five years of teaching experience teaching in elementary schools with diverse populations, including multilingual students.
• Strong commitment to social justice, anti-racism, and anti-oppression, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Ongoing record of scholarship.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collegially as a team member.

Preferred Requirements

• Experience teaching courses in childhood development, pedagogical/curriculum development, methods of literacies, including digital literacies and/or social studies.
• Experience in program development, curriculum and assessment design, infusing digital literacies and technologies across the curriculum, mentoring teacher development.
• Experience in assessment, recruitment, and/or advisement.
