Job Summary

Aid in directing and managing the Produce Department to meet sales and profit targets.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work with the Produce Manager to develop localized merchandising plans.
  • Implement approved Produce Department Plans for efficient space management.
  • Order merchandise and manage inventory to avoid stockouts and overstocking.
  • Follow procedures for receiving, pricing, and restocking products to protect quality and ensure accurate counts.
  • Control department expenses and reduce shrinkage and pilferage.
  • Train and supervise other produce department staff.
  • Manage cleaning and maintenance of cases, coolers, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Create a positive customer experience by maintaining a clean, attractive, and friendly atmosphere.
  • Maintain knowledge of company policies and procedures.
  • Submit required records and reports.
  • Analyze local conditions and competition to inform department decisions.
  • Maintain compliance with company’s Sanitation, Safety, and Security Program.
  • Fulfill local, state, and federal weight and measure laws, and health department regulations.
  • Greet customers and monitor product quality, count, and freshness.
  • Support the Salad Bar and Floral departments as needed.
  • Adhere to a weekly schedule based on projected sales and workload.
  • Maintain a neat personal appearance consistent with company dress code policy.
  • Promote safety and prevent accidents in the store.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required

  • High school diploma as a minimum requirement.
  • Ability to read, write, and tag merchandise accurately.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret reports and maintain profitability.
  • At least two years of experience as a produce clerk.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for interacting with customers, employees, and vendors.
  • Dexterity in hands for trimming and packaging produce.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
