About the role

The Assistant Principal works to improve and lead student achievement, school culture, and operational effectiveness. This leader implements a clear vision for school improvement, grounded in high expectations, instructional excellence, data-driven decision making, and equitable practices. The Assistant Principal supports processes that recruit, develop, and retain high-quality staff, establish systems for rigorous teaching and learning, and cultivate a safe and inclusive culture focused on relationships, accountability, and student success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports the implementation of the school's instructional vision aligned with district goals and priorities.
  • Supervises, observes, coaches, and evaluates assigned instructional staff to promote effective, evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Analyzes student achievement and instructional data to identify trends, monitor progress, and support targeted interventions.
  • Collaborates with teacher leaders and support staff to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.
  • Supports implementation of curriculum, assessment, and instructional initiatives across grade levels and departments.
  • Promotes a positive, inclusive, and student-centered school culture that fosters belonging, safety, and high expectations.
  • Buils strong relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners through open, transparent, and responsive communication.
  • Aids in resolving student, parent, and staff concerns in a timely, respectful, and solution-oriented manner.
  • Represents the school at district and community meetings and events as assigned.
  • Assists with the daily management of school operations, including scheduling, supervision, student attendance, transportation, and emergency procedures.
  • Oversees student discipline processes using restorative, equitable, and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Ensures compliance with district policies, state and federal regulations, and school procedures.
  • Supports the administration of state and local assessments.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation related to student discipline, attendance, safety, and operational responsibilities.
  • Supports the recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and retention of highly effective staff.
  • Provides coaching and timely feedback to assigned staff members to support continuous professional growth.
  • Aids in the conduct of staff evaluations and implementation of performance improvement plans when appropriate.
  • Promotes collaboration, shared leadership, and professional learning among staff.
  • Contributes to a positive workplace culture by recognizing staff accomplishments and supporting employee engagement.
  • Aids in the implementation and monitoring of the school's improvement plan.
  • Uses academic, behavioral, attendance, and climate data to identify areas of strength and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborates with school leadership teams to monitor progress toward school goals and adjust strategies based on evidence.
  • Supports implementation of district strategic initiatives and ensures alignment between school practices and district priorities.
  • Participates in continuous improvement efforts through reflection, data analysis, and collaborative problem-solving.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Pennsylvania Principal Certification.
  • Five (5) years of successful teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including experience as a teacher leader, instructional coach, dean, or administrator preferred.
  • Administrative experience preferred.

Reporting Relationships

The Assistant Principal reports directly to the building Principal. The Assistant Principal works closely with other building leaders and with central office administrators.

Terms of Employment

  • This position is a 12 month (260-262 day) position.
  • Starting salaries are determined based on relevant experience, education, and internal equity, and are generally set below the midpoint of the salary range.
  • This position requires someone to be on site 40 hours a week.
