Assistant Principal
About the Role
Reporting to the Principal, the PSOE Assistant Principal will provide leadership and administration to motivate instructional and support personnel toward superior performance, fostering student growth and development both educationally and personally.
Responsibilities
- Act as a professional advisor to the Principal on all aspects of the organization's activities.
- Serve as the educational and behavioral program liaison to the school’s Principal and CAO.
- Assist in managing front-line parent communication, serving as a liaison to the greater school-parent community.
- Facilitate communication between personnel, students, and/or parents to evaluate situations, solve problems, and resolve conflicts.
- Assist in the school’s behavioral management process, including attendance, dress code, and Level I and Level II offenses.
- Abide by all PSOE frameworks as approved by the executive director and as noted in the staff handbook.
- Assume administrative roles as delegated to manage workload efficiently.
- Maintain ongoing, consistent communication with PSOE leadership as outlined in the school’s leadership frameworks.
- Provide assistance with the PSOE testing structure, including implementation, organization, layout, and preparation.
- Assist with the administration of PSOE’s formal and informal evaluation process.
- Follow administrative best practices regarding legal, authorizer, and legislative guidelines, acting in the best legal interests of the organization.
- Maintain a physical and digital community presence through community meetings, representative appearances, published articles, web updates, tweets, and blogs.
- Assist with weekly grade level accountability meetings with teams during their prep period.
- Provide knowledgeable assistance with the school’s YMCA, Title I, Title III, Special Education, and 21st Century Grant programs.
Requirements
- Thorough commitment to the PSOE mission.
- Proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.
- Advanced degree, with administrative experience preferred.
- Track record of effectively leading a performance- and outcomes-based staff.
- Ability to demonstrate specific examples of developing educational strategies that advanced an educational organization.
- Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
- Passion, idealism, integrity, grit, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
- Annual training and/or professional development is required for all PSOE employees.
Preferred Skills
- Proficiency in modern educational technology applications.
- Knowledge of leadership principles as they relate to educational organizations.
- Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation applicable to charter organizations, including employment standards, human rights, special education, FERPA, occupational health and safety, and health coverage.
- Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization.

The work environment is typically a school/classroom setting, though duties may occasionally be performed on field trips away from school. The noise level is usually moderate. The Assistant Principal usually works in an office environment but may also work in non-standard workplaces as needed. The role requires a standard workweek, with additional hours in the evenings, weekends, and for activities such as educational meetings, trainings, and public events.
